Happy Holidays!

It's almost here!! 6 days till Christmas! Time to make that fruit cake, wrap those presents, and get yer butts into church. :) Christmas for my family means several things: the smell of shortbread cookies, decorating the Christmas tree together, and sitting around the t.v. watching Christmas specials. "The Grinch" (both the original and the Jim Carey one are awesome), "A Charlie Brown Christmas", and "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" are usually the top faves.

So anyway, from my family to yours,
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, etc... in other words,
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

SAY IT!!

Okay my lady readers, listen up! I want you to do something for me...

Step 1: Go to the nearest mirror
Step 2: Smile
Step 3: Say "I AM BEAUTIFUL!"

Thats right. Think back. When is the last time you've done this? It's probably been to long. Girls these days are extremely impressionable and I never really noticed just how impressionable they were until I spent some time with my younger cousin.

She's 12 years old, loves to cheer and play sports, has some pretty sweet grades in school and has a ton of awesome friends. Sounds like a pretty sweet life, right? That's what I thought until I heard her say "Man I have a big stomach! I need some bigger boobs too... *sigh*" Okay, I've never wanted to give someone the "v8 slap" so much in my life. To put it lightly, I had a little talk with her... Is this how the next generation is seeing themselves? Oy vey.

So, to all you out there who think you're not pretty for any reason: SHUT UP! You are. So, do what I told you and repeat the 3 steps as often as it takes for you to believe it, and then keep doing it.

This ends my rant-ish thing for the day.
Until next time,

Update

I've been on my diet for a good three weeks now, and I'm trying my best to be good. To be honest, if I didn't have my cheat day, I'd be going nuts by now... oy...

So, just to make things more interesting, I'm going to start posting my weight every week as I weigh myself in. Thats right... the ultimate form of embarrassment: saying your weight out loud. When I started the diet I was 215lbs... and I am now 211lbs. There. I said it. hah.

My goal is to be about 200lbs by the time I start back to school. a.k.a: September 8th. 11 pounds in 1 month? I think I can do that... but I gotta be good... real good. Time to break out the treadmill and start doing those crunches. Wish me luck!

Oh, and I'd like to thank Georgina Dollface for the great tip she gave me earlier in a comment. "Always eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking." Before the diet I never ate breakfast... not sure why, just never had the time I guess... Now I make sure I have at least a breakfast shake before I leave the house, and I'm sure to keep it in the 1 hour time frame. Just by having even a quickie breakfast I automatically become more energized and awake. It's awesome!

Anywhoo, Thats all I got for today. Until next time,

A Little Transformation

I read a quote the other day that went something like: "If you keep searching for the meaning of life, you will never live". While this may be true, I decided to do a little searching for myself.
I've always been a little rough around the edges: overweight, just passing grades, and not too sure what to do with myself. Now don't get me wrong, I have no intention of changing who I am on the inside, rather, I want to do a little makeover on the outside and on my outlook on life. Not only with my diet, but with other things as well... I suppose this is kind of my late resolutions for the year... I want to do better in school, do a little volunteering, and maybe do a little catching up with God.
So, to officially mark this new transformation, I went out and got a perm today. Thats right... my normally straight hair has been transformed into a fro-like work of art: and I love it!
But I guess thats all I have to say for today...

Diet time...

Wow its been forever since I've been on... sorry 'bout that. You know how it is with summer though... vacations, sleeping, working, more sleeping, more sleeping... ... ... get the point? hah.

I'm officially on a diet. Thats right. I'm on my 2nd week of hell and have lost only a few pounds, but I'm determined. And damned determined at that. lol. A healthy lifestyle is supposed to bring forth a better outlook on life, better concentration, more energy, and losing a few sizes won't kill me either. I'm aiming to lose 50lbs... 3 down, 47 to go... lol. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress as I go along.

Anyone have any good methods to lose weight? Diet tricks? Easy exercises? I'm looking for anything to help get me through this. Once I get going it'll be easier I'm sure, but up until now it's been hard.

Anyway, until next time,

Book Review

Before I begin, a little update: My friend at work who was re-diagnosed with breast cancer went in for her operation and everything went perfectly. Yay! She's gonna be out for a while but she's doing as well as expected.

So, onto the review!

I began reading a book by Nancy Martin called "Have your cake and kill him too". It's surprisingly good! Its a part of a series of books (seven I believe so far) called the "Blackbird Sisters Mysteries". It can only be described as Nancy Drew meets Sex and the City. Yes. I said it. As weird as those two may sound together, it works; and it works well!

Nora, the main character, comes from an extremely wealthy family, including her two sisters: Libby and Emma. Nora finds herself broke, pregnant, and in the middle of a murder. To top it off, she's not sure who the father of her unborn child is! "She's got a personal life to untangle, and a killer to slap behind bars, before her grandmother's couture gets so sung that the Main Line gossips take notice." (A quote from the summary on the back)
The characters are a lot like Nancy, Bess and George only hyped up in drama and sex... sounds fun, right? If you like a good mystery mixed with Loius Vuitton handbags and Prada shoes you're in for a good read.

This isn't the first book in the series, so I'm not sure if theres any back story or not, but I'm going to find the first one and start from there. :)
Here's the order:
"How to Murder a Millionaire"
"Dead Girls Don't Wear Diamonds"
"Some Like it Lethal"
"Cross Your Heart and Hope to Die"
"Have Your Cake and Kill Him too"
"Crazy Little Thing Called Death"
"Murder Melts in Your Mouth"

Check 'em out!!

So, until next time,

Number 3??

You've all heard the saying "Bad things come in threes", right? Well I just hope '3' would hurry up and show its ugly face.

The last few days have been pretty painful. First, a breast cancer survivor that I work with was just re-diagnosed and then the next day I learned that my great-aunt on my father's side was given 6 months to a year to live. If those are just the beginning, I am absolutely dreading what will come next.

I'm usually a happy-go-lucky person but due to the last few days I've been finding it hard to put on a smile and be cheerful and I really hate being like that. I need to find something to do--something that will take my mind off everything. I'm sure I'll find something.

Anyway, I guess thats all for now... not a very good post/update but it's just something thats got me down and that I wanted to get off my chest hoping it would help a little.

So until next time,

Life Update

Hey fellow bloggers! I've been severely slacking in the blog department lately, but to be honest, there hasn't really been anything to blog about. The last few weeks have included nothing but work and sleep, but \i shall try to re-cap you on anything that should be mentioned...

So I suppose the first thing on the docket would be that I finally bought a Nintendo WII. One thing is for sure: I totally understand how people loose a ton of weight playing that thing. After a good 5 hours or so of baseball, golf and tennis followed by a sword fight, I can barely lift my right arm... hah! It's a lot of fun though. Even my folks and my grandma are into it! So far all I have is the Sports and the Sports Resort games but I want MORE!!! For those WII-ians (yes, I just made that up...) out there, lemme know what games you like, what you don't, and which ones would be better burned than played :)

Secondly, I now have 2 new additions to my fish tank... My angelfish Koji died last week due to the ick disease so after a solid week of cleaning and treating my tank, I decided two little clouds just wern't enough for me. So I took my friend to the pet store, told her to pick out a fish, and she did. "Nonny" (as she decided to name her) is an angelfish like Koji was, only instead of being black and white, she has some yellow on her... she's also about a quarter of the size! The other one I got was a "Male Sunset Gourami". He is really pretty and fades from a blue to orange. Kinda like this:

Finally, the last thing I did was FINALLY see the new Sex and the City movie. It was really good and had a lot of good laughs. I'm not sure if it was as funny as the first movie was, but hey, how many sequels are?? I now completely understand why my friends call me Charlotte though... heh. As for the people out there that say "I never even seen ONE episode of the show, so I wouldn't get it..." WRONG! I was only introduced to the greatness by watching the first movie... that re-caps everything so you don't have to know. Anyone who hasn't watched it, watch it! :)

So, that's about all for now I guess.
Until next time,

A Modern Musical Genius

I've been home a few days from my trip now and I know I said that I would post about it with pics and the like, but I'm currently going through them all with the friend I went with, trying to figure out which is where and what is which... this is gonna take a while. Between the two of us we managed to rack up over 1500 photos plus videos... so... yeah. :)

Anyway, this is more of a catch-up post. I would like to share with everyone some music that I absolutely love! His name on youtube is "Fagottron", a.k.a Pogo. This dude has an amazing talent of taking random sounds from your favorite movies and turning them into some kick ass music. Here is a link to his youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Fagottron.

Unfortunately, some of his earlier work has been flagged by youtube as copy write, so a couple that aren't on his channel, but are still awesome are: "Alice" and "Alohamora". Pretty straight-forward about what they're from. xD

Here is the video for my personal fave, "Expialidocious". Enjoy!

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Day-to-Appreciate-Mother-Earth-and-All-She-Gives-Us!! So everyone, get off those computers (I will as soon as I'm done posting), get out and enjoy the great wonders of the planet!

I, personally, plan to have nothing on in my room (with the exception of my fish tank), go for a walk outside rather than on the treadmill, have NO lights on tonight (I shall be reading by candlelight), and to read rather than watch T.V.

So what are your plans for Earth Day?

Fishies!

I really need to update my fish tank... I was able to collect 1 goldfish, 2 platies, 2 angelfish, and 10 white clouds and an algae eater; that was over a year ago. I am now down to 2 white clouds, 1 angelfish and the algae eater.

After the major cloud buffet by my angelfish (the only reason 2 survived was cause they didn't fit in his mouth...) I decided I should probably get some more fish to fill up my tank. I think my fish are getting a little lonely... and eaten...

So, now I ask you for some suggestions. Know of any awesome fish I can throw in my tank? I love color, they can't be too small (my angel fish may eat them), and they have to be able to get along with other fish, so no fin biters. hah. Oh, and it's a fresh water tank, so... fresh water fish... :)

So... yeah! After I finally decide I shall post pix of my tank and it's new addition(s).

Until next time,

School Decisions...

So I have decided two things:
1. It should be illegal to have a university exam on a Saturday night from 7:00 to 10:00... we have better things to do on a Saturday night.
2. It should be just as illegal to have a university exam on a Monday morning at 9:00... I need sleep!

Unfortunately those two times were the ones I was stuck with for my exams, but now I am done, out, and free! My next few days have already been planned: movies, junk food, sleep, partying, and finally, spending some time with my semi-neglected friends. I cannot wait to begin, but I haven't blogged in quite some time, so I thought I should start. hah.
So I am currently sitting in the cafeteria of my school, waiting to be picked up by my mother as my car has decided to not work... again... haha. Stupid wheel and it's threatening to pop off... ugh. I'm in the middle of trying to decide whether or not to stay here next year. I want to do something completely different with my life, but I've already wasted 2 years here, might as well get the diploma for something to show... right? Well, I just got an acceptance letter from one of the other collages I applied to this year, in case I made up my mind about leaving... the only thing is: tuition is way more expensive. Granted, it IS only a one year course rather than a 5-year, so that may have something to do with it... either way, its a load of money I dunno if I can afford. Oh well, I have plenty of time to decide. They don't need an answer for another month or so. Yay me.

So, for now I guess I will just sit back and relax a while, one things for sure... I definitely deserve it! Until next time,

Lazy Days...

Today was an official lazy day. I was supposed to be studying (which I did do) but then got severely side-tracked and began to watch cartoons and paint. I love to paint, but I rarely have enough time to do it. I'm thinking of taking some more time to just settle down and do what I do best: nothing! That includes painting, reading, cross-stitching and just being plain lazy. I think I deserve to take some time for myself.
These last few years have been extremely stressful and I have no idea why. There have been some days that I have been reduced to basically tears over something as stupid as a test mark. I'm doing fine in school (now) and have nothing to fear about next year but I still really don't want to go back. This probably sounds like every other person in school going "Aw Man, I hate school!" But I actually love it there, its just getting too stressful there. I'm starting to think I should take a year off and figure out what I want to do. I think I've changed my mind about 10 times about what I want to do later on in life, so it gets stressful trying to pick courses that will, indeed, help you in that field. Iunno what to do, but I know that in time I'll figure it out. :)

So, thats it for now! Until next time,

Anne Frank

Last night the movie "The Diary of Anne Frank" was on. I had never read her diary, but have always wanted to, so watching the movie was a close second. I must say though... knowing the end of the story really makes the movie that much harder to watch. I usually don't get too emotional over stories, but the fact that this was real made it that much harder to swallow, and I couldn't say to myself, "Its just a movie, its not real...".
For anyone who has lived under a rock for their whole life and has no idea who Anne Frank is, she was a remarkable little girl who hid with her family and others in a small attic in Holland from the Nazis. She was there two full years before they were ratted out and forced into camps. During her time in the attic she kept a diary about everything from her love life to the bombs crashing outside. The diary was later found and made into a book, and then a movie.

I would strongly recommend the movie to anyone although I would suggest to have a box of tissues beside you at all times; especially at the end... The cast was really well done. The people chosen look a LOT like the original people, and play their parts well.

All in all, its a great movie, and really opens up to what happened to so many innocent people. It really showed me what my family was over there fighting for, and made it so I can be proud to say "My relatives helped to stop this stupidity and give people the freedom they deserve!"

It's now available online at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/annefrank/watch.html along with the complete list of actors and characters. The cast and the people they played are compared here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/annefrank/characters.html so you can see how well the casting department did.

So go watch that movie people! It's a real eye-opener as well as a good history lesson.

Walking in the Woods

While I was doing my essay yesterday, my brain started to function strangely; I decided it was time to take a break and do something else. It was a beautiful day, so I decided that I might as well go for a walk in the woods. To me, nothing is more calming than going out with a camera to experience the beauty of nature in your own back yard. One advantage to living in the sticks: Your backyard is nothing but forest.

So, as an update, here are some of the pics I took. Enjoy!

Easter Wishes and Cupcakes!

Happy Easter everyone!

Remember how I said that I made cupcakes yesterday? Well I thought I should show you how they turned out. We made both bunnies and chicks. The bunnies look a bit strange in my opinion, but they're still amazingly cute!

The Bunny Cupcake:
To make this you'll need:
Sweetened coconut
Large marshmallows for ears (cut in small round sections)
Pink Sprinkles for coloring
Blue Smarties for eyes
Pink chocolate wafer for nose (cut to make triangles)
Small marshmallows for cheeks
Thin black licorice for whiskers.

Just roll an iced cupcake in the coconut and add features as you like. The whiskars are shoved into the cupcake rather than glued on with icing for our cupcakes; we found they stayed on longer. Extra frosting may be needed to hold some stuff on. (we learned that the hard way...)

The Chick Cupcake

To make this you'll need:
Sweetened coconut
Yellow food coloring
Brown Smarties for eyes
Orange baking gummies for beak

Dye the coconut with the food coloring and roll an iced cupcake to coat. Cut the gummies into halves for the beak. Add features as you'd like. Extra frosting may be needed for this as well.

So once again, hope everyone has a safe, fun and Happy Easter.
Until next time,

Scary Shoppers

Nothing is more frightening than working the day between holidays. For instance: the stores were open today, they were closed yesterday, and they're going to be closed tomorrow... Today was officially crazy. On holidays, people are either mean or crazy... or both! I've probably only gotten 3 nice people today, all who I wanted to hug. The major thing I hate about working retail: people don't care! Especially when they've only got a 13 hour span in 3 days to go shopping. Really though; it's the Easter holiday! If you're going to come into town and shop, at least be nice about it!

Now I obviously don't mean "everyone" when I say "people", cause there are definitely some super nice people out there who go out of their way to be nice. But as for the crazy people; well I'll give you an example.

I work with this one lady who is in her early 50's. She's super nice, and I'm always teasing her and telling her she's my work mother, cause she pretty much is. (she will be yellow, he's orange) This man came up to her looking for a spark plug, but the numbers on it didn't match up to the ones we had, so it was obvious he got it from another store. She asked him, "Can you tell me what this is from?" He replied, "Well its from here!" "Yes I know sir, but is it from a lawn mower, chain saw...?" "Lawnmower..." "Okay, do you know what model it is?" *pointing to the displays* "Well its one of those..." "Yes, but is is Yard Works, Jobmate, Troy-Bilt?" "I honestly don't think you want to help me! I'm f**kin telling you that its one of those mowers and you're not f**king doing anything to f**kin help me!" "Sir, calm down. It's just that I can't get you the right spark plug if I don't know what model it is. Certain plugs go to certain machines." "This is f**kin bull shit! You don't want to help me!" and then he slumps off mumbling curse words under his breath.

Now really... why on earth she would continue with a person like that, I don't know. Its just the type of person she is. Still, people have no right to talk to us like that, but they think we are there to simply fulfill their orders and slave over them. Well, here's the harsh reality; we're not.

The day went on and on with people yelling about products, people, placings, prices, and any other things they could think of. The pathetic thing is; basically everyone was yelling about completely stupid stuff that didn't make sense to anyone.

For anyone who doesn't understand or has never worked retail, here are a few tips:
1. We are NOT mind readers. We don't know what "that pink thing" on T.V.is. Be more specific.
2. Be nice to us, we'll be nice to you. If you're going to sit there and yell over something stupid, you lose all respect from us and make a fool out of yourself in the process.
3. Don't whistle, snap your fingers, or yell to get our attention. Whenever a guy/girl snaps or whistles at me, they get "Sorry, no dogs allowed in the store, gonna have to ask you to leave" for an answer.
4. Don't order us around! We aren't your slaves! Be nice! Say "please" and "Thank you" and we're probably going to be super nice right back.

So that was my rant for the day. I'm telling you, retail staff is definitely over worked, under paid, and poorly treated.
Until next time,
